Running for a Cause: My Half Marathon with St Helena Hospice

October 03, 20252 min read

In September I set myself a challenge that was completely out of my comfort zone — running a half marathon to raise money for St Helena Hospice.

This year has been a tough one for my family. I lost my younger cousin, and it was a stark reminder of how precious time and family really are. St Helena Hospice provides vital care and support for families going through some of the hardest moments, so running this half marathon felt like a way to honour that and give something back.

Now, if you know me, you’ll know I’m not exactly a natural runner. Training wasn’t easy. There were days when I didn’t want to lace up my trainers, when it rained, when my legs ached, when I doubted if I’d ever get to the finish line. But I kept going. One run at a time. One mile at a time.

And here’s what I realised along the way — running a business is a lot like training for a half marathon.

  • You need consistency, even when it’s hard.

  • You need support around you.

  • And you need to keep your eyes on the bigger goal, even when the day-to-day feels tough.

Race day came, and I did it. I crossed that finish line. And thanks to so many generous supporters, I raised £235 for St Helena Hospice 🎉.

I’m so grateful to everyone who donated, cheered me on, or sent encouraging messages. It meant the world, and I know it will make a difference to families who really need it.

This was more than just a run for me. It was a reminder that with the right mindset, support, and commitment, you can achieve things you once thought impossible. And that’s exactly what I want for every equine business owner I work with too.
